Kellen Perry is the owner of Higher Powered Vocal Studio in Los Gatos, CA. She specializes in teaching vocals, microphone technique, guitar and piano to children and young adults aged 7 - 21. She offers her students two formal recitals each year. Through these recitals, students gain valuable performing skills and learn stage presence.
She founded The Voices of Spirit Choir in 1998 at The Center for Spiritual Enlightenment, an interfaith church in San Jose. Kellen performs healing music as a solo harpist at churches and for critically ill and dying patients. She plays harp at the bedside as part of a duet with Una Nakamura at the Terraces retirement acute care facility, O’Conner and Stanford Hospitals.
Kellen has forty years of musical experience. She has studied harp for 8 years, violin for 4 years, piano and music theory for 10 years, voice for 39 years and guitar for 45 years. She began her musical career playing piano by ear at age 3. In 1965 she was recruited by the USO to play folk music for the Air Force during the Vietnam War. She performed all over the Bay Area as a guitarist/vocalist in the 70’s and 80’s.
Kellen is a Certified Music Practitioner, and an Occupational Therapy graduate. From 1998 - 2003, she was the California Area Coordinator for the Music for Healing and Transition Program (MHTP). While performing the duties of Area Coordinator, she initiated the sponsorship of O’Conner Hospital to offer MHPT classes onsite.
Kellen was a member of the “Masterworks Choral” in San Jose, and founded a vocal ensemble in 2002 that is performing at churches and Spiritual Centers. Presently, Kellen sings, under the direction of Daniel Hughes, with the choir at the Center of Spiritual Living in San Jose. A founding member of the San Francisco Bay Area all female improvisational music group “The Sisters of the Sound Continuum”. She is a professional Voice Over actor. She is also a member of the Folk Harp Society and Harpers Hall in the South Bay Area. She will be releasing several CD’s this year including the new SIS CD.
In 2000, Kellen participated in the Choral Concepts Workshop with Donald Neuen in Los Angeles, CA. Most recently in 2006, Kellen attended the McClosky Institute for the Troubled Voice in Boston, MA.
We have two teaching studios available. Both are equipped with pianos, microphones, and CD players. We have recording capabilities and can reproduce any recording made in the studio. 1/2 size and 3/4 sized guitars are available to rent at a nominal fee.
Our approach to our students as well as life is very Spiritually oriented. We serve all ethnic races and religions.
